FORT COLLINS, COLO. – January 7, 2014 — Known as Fort Collins’ favorite February FUNdraiser, Simply Red is the largest fundraiser for Team Fort Collins and will be held on Friday, Feb. 7 at the Hilton Fort Collins from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. This year Team Fort Collins will also be celebrating their 25th Anniversary. The event includes scrumptious dinner, champagne & cocktails, presentation of the Lamplighter Award to Kent Obermann, dancing to the Backline band, the signature Rose Drawing, a Paddle Raise as well as a silent auction featuring Valentine’s Day packages, which include various gift certificates and items donated from local businesses.
This year, Team Fort Collins is a proud Affiliate Agency of Realities for Children Charities. Poudre Valley Hospital, University of Colorado Health has signed on as a Diamond Sponsor for 2014 Simply Red. Emerald Sponsors include Caldera Event Group, Hilton Fort Collins and Tim and Candy Wirt. The following are Ruby Sponsors: David Wiegand- Country Financial and Warren Credit Union. The Parent Education Sponsor is High Country Beverage.
Team Fort Collins will present Kent Obermann, longtime Team Fort Collins volunteer, with the 2014 Lamplighter Award. “The Lamplighter Award is presented to someone who motivates others to benefit youth, embodies the spirit of collaboration, goes beyond his/her profession to benefit the community, demonstrates healthy living and believes that healthy youth are an important part of our community’s future,” commented Ashley Kaspersak, director at Team Fort Collins.
At the ToothZone, Obermann has built a business that places a high priority on community involvement. When he retired in July 2013, he held a free community festival at Edora Park with food, bounce houses, entertainment and more. He asked several nonprofit organizations to have booths and provide education. He attracted over 1,000 people and his purpose was to simply say, “thank you and enjoy life.” He leads a band called the Blues DoGS that has played at Simply Red for the past four years at no cost. He is also very involved in Respite Care and the AlphaCenter. The Larimer County Department of Health has recognized Kent for his outstanding contributions in improving our community’s health via establishing two Medicaid clinics in northern Colorado. Kent has also volunteered for Project Smile thereby providing dental services to children who can’t afford the service. Lastly, he highlights youth creativity by hanging youth artwork in his waiting room and office for all to enjoy.
Team Fort Collins is a nationally recognized community coalition that promotes a healthy lifestyle through education and awareness preventing the abuse and illegal use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs among youth, their families and our community.
Simply Red tickets are $100 a person; $1,000 for a reserved table of eight. Make it a special Valentine’s weekend and book a room at the Hilton; special room rates at the Hilton Fort Collins are available for $99.
