Eva Zmatlikova: Poetry in Stone Featured at the Loveland Museum Gallery

LOVELAND, CO – Over the years, poetry has served as a powerful inspiration for several artists.

Salvador Dali looked to Dante, William Turner to Homer, and Czech artist Eva Zmatlikova to Rumi. Eva Zmatlikova: Poetry in Stone, a new exhibit featured at the Loveland Museum/Gallery from October 27, 2012 through February 10, 2013, showcases the influence poetry has had on Zmatlikova’s body of work as well as her career as an artist.

An opening reception for Eva Zmatlikova: Poetry in Stone will take place at 6:00 pm on Friday, November 9 at the Loveland Museum/Gallery. The free event will run in conjunction with Loveland’s monthly Night on the Town festivities and will also celebrate the opening of Dave Yust 40+ Years of Printmaking: A Retrospective, a new exhibit featured in the Main Gallery. Both artists will be present for the opening reception.

Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Zmatlikova was introduced to impressive art and architecture at a young age and spent her free time drawing, painting, and visiting local museums and galleries. While attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Zmatlikova was discouraged by the restraints the communist government placed on the art community and immigrated to Austria to broaden her opportunities as an artist. Years later, fueled by a need for adventure, she moved to Colorado and began her study in stone sculpting.

Eva Zmatlikova: Poetry in Stone represents a cross-disciplinary journey into the influence of words upon the sculptural form. Drawing inspiration from a number of poets, Zmatlikova immersed herself in the world of poetry in an effort to transform words into stone. Her work is described by many as emotional, feminine, and sensual.
