Denver, CO The Colorado Health Care Association and Center for Assisted Living (CHCA/CCAL) recently honored 46 outstanding long term caregivers from nursing care facilities across the state. Jean Cannon from Aspen House Memory Care Assisted Living was honored as Assisted Living Administrator of the year. Jessica Anderson from Aspen House Memory Care Assisted Living was honored as Caregiver of the Year for Colorado District II and for Colorado Caregiver of the Year Finalist. Jean Cannon was honored for her passion and dedication to those whom she serves and for having created an environment for those living with cognitive impairments that allows them to continue to live full vital lives. She follows the belief that life does not end with a dementia diagnosis. Ms Cannon is a state and national speaker on dementia care and staff retention. She has led Aspen House to earn the Alzheimers Association distinction Leaders in Dementia Care for two years since its inception. Further, Aspen House has has been recognized by the City of Loveland as number one in customer service and number two as best employer and best senior living community in just three short years since opening. Jessica Anderson was honored for creating a person-centered experience each and every day for the residents she encounters. She is kind, loving, and energetic and is a true advocate of seniors and the care they receive. The following Caregivers at Aspen House were nominated for these “Caregiver Spotlight on Excellence” Awards: Amanda Small, Linda Clark, Maria Steider, and Shay Hersberger. Jenny Drake was nominated for “Activity Director” and Wendy DeWeerd, RN was a nominee for 2013 Nurse of the Year. Caregivers were recognized at a special banquet held September 18, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza, Denver, the final event of the CHCA annual four-day convention which hosts over 1,500 attendees. All of the caregivers were honored for their commitment to long term care and for continually striving to provide quality care and quality of life to the residents they serve. Nursing care providers, legislators, regulators, policy makers, vendors and community leaders joined together to honor these outstanding individuals and recognize excellence in the long term care profession.
