25th Annual Colorado Governor’s Art Show & Sale Jury Selections Announced
2016 celebrates event’s 25th anniversary
Loveland, CO – The Colorado Governor’s Art Show & Sale (GArtS) is pleased to announce the jury’s selection of artists for the 2016 Show, the event’s 25th. The GArtS silver anniversary includes multiple events leading up to and during the exhibition and sale, which runs April 24 to May 29 at the Loveland Museum/Gallery. GArtS stands out as one of the most prestigious exhibits and sales of original art in the western United States. It includes sculpture, mixed media, oil, watercolor and acrylic paintings from 55 Colorado artists.
“We’re so pleased that we had more than 300 applications for our 25th anniversary,” said GArtS Board Member John Kinkade. “We find the quality of work improves each year, and we’re delighted with this year’s submissions.”
The 2016 show, presented by the Thompson Valley and the Loveland Rotary Clubs, celebrates 25 years of supporting Colorado artists and fundraising for local and international charities. This year the show debuts a program honoring legacy artists who have participated in past years of the Colorado Governor’s Art Show & Sale and have works in the City of Loveland’s Art in Public Places collection, which celebrated its 30th anniversary at the end of 2015. To date, Quang Ho and Kim English have confirmed that they will participate as legacy artists this year, will attend the opening night gala, and will have work displayed and available for sale at this year’s show.
Events hosted by the 2016 GArtS include the 25th Anniversary Gala on April 23, 2016, a Plein Air Festival May 7, art demonstrations at the Loveland Museum/Gallery, and specialty art sales which will include glass and jewelry artists.
All art in this year’s event will be available for purchase beginning the evening of the Gala and during the run of the show. Show patrons and those who have purchased works from GArtS in the past will have an opportunity to view and purchase work at a special VIP preview event. Loveland’s 4th Street Gallery will also host a sale of secondary market art with sales benefiting GArtS.
Colorado artists participating in the 2016 Show for the first time include wildlife painter Carrie Cook and sculptor Richard Pankratz. Returning artists include painter Mark Bailey, a featured artist in 2015, sculptor Amy Laugesen, and celebrated Loveland sculptor Jane DeDecker.
Beneficiaries of Art Sales
Funds raised through the sale of art at the Show are given to a wide variety of causes and groups, both locally and internationally, and for art scholarships for local students and Rotary Youth Leadership Camp scholarships. Local charities that received funds in the last year include Loveland Creatorspace, House of Neighborly Service, Food Bank for Larimer County, The Growing Project, Trailblazer Foundation, Loveland Youth Gardeners, and Live-Laugh-Love-Believe, Inc. International funding has been provided for shelter boxes for Haiti, medical supplies for those in need around the world, clean water projects in Nicaragua and Burma, shoes for children in Thailand, and Rotary International’s “Stamp Out Polio” project.
