More than Pretty in Pink – Coloradoan Goes Pink for a Cause

FORT COLLINS, COLO. (October 27, 2014) –  Readers of the Fort Collins Coloradoan know by now that the newspaper has gone pink for the month of October to support breast cancer awareness. What readers may not know is that the Coloradoan Media Group has pledged to donate a portion of sales from all participating advertisers in the Coloradoan to the PVH and MCR Foundation's Patient Navigator fund during the month of October.  The Patient Navigator fund provides support services and financial assistance to UCHealth cancer patients in northern Colorado.

“We are tremendously grateful for the Coloradoan’s partnership and generous support to help lighten the burden of a breast cancer diagnosis for patients in our community,” explained Erica Siemers, senior director of the PVH and MCR Foundation. “We are just amazed at how businesses in our community keep coming up with fresh, creative ideas to raise money for this cause.”

This is the first year that the Coloradoan Media Group has done the “Pink Paper” promotion to increase awareness. It's also the first year that they have committed to raising funds to directly assist patients through their advertising efforts and it has the potential to make a big impact. They have pledged to donate $2.50 per column inch to the foundation, which adds up to $150.00 for each half-page ad and $75.00 for a quarter-page ad.  With 31 days in the month, that can add up quickly to help a lot of people in the community.

The Coloradoan supported breast cancer awareness in other ways this month, as well.  On Sundays in October, $1.00 from each ‘Coloradoan’ Drink purchased at the Human Bean in Fort Collins went to the Patient Navigator Program.  In addition, University of Colorado Hospital's mobile mammography van, “The Pink Life Saver,” provided mammograms on location in Coloradoan’s parking lot on Friday, October 24.

For more information about any of these promotions, please contact Sarah Armstrong, marketing manager at the Coloradoan Media Group (sarmstrong@coloradoan.com).

About PVH and MCR Foundation:
