Sean McCarthy, Colorado Coaching Company

February 2011 - Featured Monthly Investor

Sean McCarthy gets it. He understands that engagement, not only in life but also in career and community, is a key driver in overall success. As a business coach with Colorado Coaching Company, Sean devotes his time and talent to his clients, ensuring their growth and success; however he manages to also focus on his own professional growth through community involvement and his commitment to the Loveland Chamber of Commerce.

As a relatively new investor with the Loveland Chamber, Sean clearly and immediately understood the philosophy behind chamber investment, ‘you get out of it what you put into it’. Sean jumped on board quickly with enthusiasm, optimism and high energy, becoming active in leads groups, the Marketing Resource Committee, Stir young professionals, attending networking and educational events including Business After Hours, Business Before Hours and In Focus Educational Series and finally, he engages with other investors and the Chamber through social media.

His contribution to the Marketing Resource Committee has directly impacted the chamber and its success with the First Annual Sweetheart City Business Decorating Contest. According to Loveland Chamber President/CEO Brian Willms, Sean’s leadership, enthusiasm and willingness to not only create but implement ideas, contributes greatly to the committee. Additionally, Sean’s involvement with the Chamber combined with his optimistic problem solving and critical thinking skills made him the perfect facilitator to introduce the Chamber’s first-ever dedicated MasterMinds Group. He understands how to help business owners and professionals focus in on issues and objectives then help them work to develop a process for resolving issues and achieving objectives.

“With Sean’s coaching background he has a unique way of looking at challenges and finding solutions for both the Chamber and our investors. He has been very active with our efforts to move forward with utilizing social media to reach a wider investor base,” said Jim Worthen, director of investor services at the Loveland Chamber. “Sean is someone you feel comfortable representing the Chamber and our mission and a true friend of business and the Loveland community.”

Hear it from Sean:
How have you capitalized on your Loveland Chamber investment and what has it brought you?

I have been active in meeting business owners. I have, also, had the opportunity to partner with the Chamber in offering Mastermind Groups. This has allowed me to make closer connections with business owners that are participating.

What Chamber events, committees etc. do you find the most valuable?

I have had the pleasure of participating on the marketing resource committee and this especially enjoyed working on the social media social. One of my favorite events to participate in is business before hours. I find that I have more time to talk with other investors and other members that are in attendance. I look forward to getting more involved in the Corn Roast Festival this year, that is a great event that offers plenty of opportunities to get involved.

What would you say to someone considering Chamber investment?

I jokingly remind folks that a Chamber membership is a lot like a health club membership. A health club membership is only useful if you go to the club and take advantage of the many resources and tools that are available. A Chamber membership is much the same, you need to take advantage of the many resources, tools, committees and events and make a conscious effort to get involved. I would encourage anyone considering a Chamber investment to come to the events or even try out one of the leads groups or one of the new mastermind groups and get a better understanding of what's available and who the potential contacts might be.

What has been the top benefit to you for your Chamber involvement?

The top benefit for me personally has been a better connection to the community. I feel that by getting to know more of the business community and being involved in the events that the Chamber helps to sponsor I not only have been more visible in the community myself, but have also plugged into the Loveland community as a whole.

Which events will we see you at in March?

Well you know I will be at the Mastermind Groups, and we have a new group starting this month, so that will be exciting. I noticed a couple of Ribbon cuttings that I have down on my Calendar: PF Changs, Words by Bob and since my son attends so many events with me, I will be at the Ribbon Cutting for Bounce. I hope to attend this month’s In Focus with Lori, about Facebook Fan Pages. Finally I promise to be at the Workshop that Rob Smith and I will be presenting at the Chamber about How to get Listed on Google Places, on March 11th.
